come and gone.

she came with a purpose,
a mission for her night,
a determination that she hadn’t felt
in such a long time.

she left without anger and resentment,
leaving it all right there on the table,
sitting right out in front of him
next to the full glass of Bud Light,
that his dark eyes stared down into.

she left lighter,
with her back to the hurt
that she had tried to rid herself of for so long.
she left the things she said
still ringing in his ears, burning in his chest.
she left with the realization that now,
she wasn’t hurting, but he was.

she left, as a different person than before,
with less of who she was
and more who she wanted to be.
