Sometimes you just need a reminder that life isn’t so bad after all.

It could always be worse, people. Really, it could.

Have a good Thursday!

happy birthday, little brother.

We have been enemies and friends. We have fought and laughed. Growing up with me probably wasn’t always easy, but you survived. Happy 23rd birthday! Love you!

Sunday is my favorite day of the week because you can be as slow and lazy as you want, and nobody is going to tell you that you are wrong for needing some of that kind of time. For reading, for laughing, for no makeup and still feeling good, for being with people who want to be slow and lazy with you.

Today was just fantastic.

**Also, sending good thoughts to my nephew who had an emergency appendectomy last night. He is a tough kid, and hopefully he can get out of the hospital soon!

this weekend

I am…

+ recovering from a long week back to work by TAKING. IT. EASY.
+ listening to lots of The Band Perry and Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass.” It makes me dance.
+ craving popcorn.
+ thankful for my crazy, loving friends.
+ buying an orchid. I need one, like this. They’re such happy flowers.
+ addicted to pinning.
+ planning a yellow office for the new house. Heck YES!
+ waiting patiently for my hair to grow out so I can do a side-braid. Messy is my thing, but fly aways aren’t.
+ making list after list of things that need to be done and planned in this homebuilding.
+ on the hunt for an awesome lamp for my new bedroom. A thrifted base & new shade, just so I can write on it. Isn’t that gorgeous?

The Hunger Games.

I can barely wait for March. And I am so hoping it lives up to the books.

October 18, 2011

a few things.

First, thanks for the comments and emails from everyone worrying about me after my surgery.  I really am okay.  Even went back to work today. It wasn’t a major surgery, just one that left me with quite a bit of pain, but that is getting better and better with every day. I didn’t tell anyone (besides my family and a few people at work) because I didn’t want anyone to be too worried. Not even my best friend knew I was having it done. Maybe I’m just too tough for my own good. Anyway, I’m on the mend, and the thoughtful concerns were nice. My coworkers also sent me a plant for my office as a get well present. How sweet. Thank you, all of you.

Second, the land is officially all mine. I signed the rest of the paperwork yesterday, and we are planning cleanup and grooming (taking out the ugly hedge trees – I hate them!) soon. I am always a regretful buyer of anything big, but this is different. I am sort of proud of myself for seeing this “dream” through, even if it isn’t done yet. No going back now.

Third, fall. It is still lovely. The trees are still changing, and the weather was much cooler today. sigh. I love it.

40 years is a long time. A long, long time to be married. But today my parents have been married for just that.

It seems amazing to me that two people can get along for that entire length of time. They are proof that it can be done.

Happy anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Thank goodness for scheduled posts because otherwise it would have been crickets chirping around here this week. I have been down and out and in the hospital for a few days, but don’t worry, I’m just fine. A little pain, but nothing that some pain pills can’t fix. The anesthesia doctor was completely worth it though. *sigh* Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

birthday present diy.

Kristi is a cool girl.  She’s probably the coolest girl I know in a wheelchair, and I have to thank our chairs for bringing us together as friends.

For her birthday, I made a homemade SMASH book from a simple composition book.  (It’s okay, she already got it so no worries about this being a spoiler.)  I couldn’t find any pretty navy blue washi tape, so I had to settle for silver. It’s still a Cowboy-ish color.  And I sent a bunch of scrapbook stuff I had that she might use too.

My SMASH book has really taught me to embrace messiness.  It’s good for the soul, and I think Kristi is going to love that too!

Posts I am loving lately.

There is one way to get inspired: daydream while you are reading blogs. It works for me, and lately these are a few of the beautiful, witty, and creative places around the web that get my mind working.

+ How beautiful would a wedding like this be!?

+ Page pals. Sweet. I want to stock up for when my one-day kid is growing.

+ Another mini from Elise. She is never lacking on the inspiration.

+ Sigh. This poem made me do just that.

+ The first line of this piece is my favorite. The whole blog fills me with a calm though.

spilling over.

Tears have never solved anything,
but sometimes they are all that is
left after a long day.

No questions and judgments.
Just a visit to build me up and say
“It’ll be okay eventually.”

My strength always
turns out to be my greatest weakness.

This is simply who I am.

October 9, 2011

all pink.

Baby showers are fun. Just because they are. The planning, the baking, the figuring-it-all-out, the celebration of the almost-arrival of a new tiny person. I love it.

Lindsay, my oldest niece, is having her second baby in just a few weeks. It was a sweet thing when Dayton was born because he is such a boy, but now that they are having a girl, their lives are about to be surrounded by all things pink. The shower yesterday went great.

It was fun helping my sister plan and get everything rounded up for it, and it was even more fun hearing how everyone loved the decor/food/space. Now, if we can just get little Layla Lynn to make her entrance!

October 5, 2011

fall is my favorite.

I used to think summer was my season, with all the sunshine and tank top weather, but I was wrong. Hoodies, chilly morning/evening air, changing leaves, hot coffee and driving with the windows open and the wind in my hair. I love it all more than sweltering heat.

I am soaking up all the beauty that is fall before it gets too cold, though it is somewhat calming to be able to wrap up in a blanket and just chill for a minute.

I need some chill.

October 2, 2011

hello, fall.

October snuck up on me. Then it slapped me in the face.

The days are getting shorter, and my to-do list is getting longer. Exponentially, it seems. Lindsay’s baby shower is next weekend (we thought she was going to have the baby last night, but it was flu/dehydration), then I will have an “off” week (long story, but I know I won’t feel up to doing anything), then it’s back to business, closing on the land purchase. That means no promises on new posts. I”m going to try, but it’s going to be hit-or-miss for a while.

Be patient with me, darlings. xoxo.
