there are ideas a-swirling.

Lots of them, and my sketchbook is quickly filling up. Who knows what I’ll actually go through with designing (or what I’ll have time to design anytime soon), but at least I have them there where I can see them.

I love that idea-in-my-head feeling. Don’t you?

life is lovely.

Lots of color, lots of pattern, lots of pictures (to come of course), lots of love(ly).

I love when an idea feels good and gets me excited. I have been waiting around for something to get me in gear on this 2011 Life is Lovely book, but nothing did. Until last night. Luckily, I’m only a month behind and not six. It’s hard to catch up once you’ve got 6 months of pictures and mementos stuff to get into a mini.

I bought the paper at Big Lots during the summer, and I didn’t have any idea what to do with it. It was more than worth the 5 bucks I paid for it. It’s bright and cheerful and optimistic, and that’s what I am hoping the rest of 2011 is too.

It has to be. Stay tuned.

Also, happy birthday to my sister today! Love you Darcy!

red and green already.

I’m trying to not be a procrastinator this year. So yes, I have started thinking about Christmas in September.

Handmade Christmas cards are always a pain if I try to do them all at once, so I figured I would do a little at a time to get them ready and assembled. Then when it gets closer I’ll write on them and get them addressed. I already had the idea for the design a few months ago and have had to force myself to not work on them until now.

I’m cutting, trimming, and edge punching all day, and will do the rest at some other time. As long as they are ready to address by December (plus it might take me that long to find that damn green tape I have and want to use). I pride myself in personal Christmas cards–instead of a generic old message that goes out exactly the same to everyone. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it’s not my style. That alone can take a half a day!

2009 X-mas cards.

This year, instead of spending hours and hours agonizing over Christmas cards, I decided that simple and easy cards were what I wanted. Even though some might say they are TOO simple, I like the way they turned out. I got everything at either Michael’s or Paper Source (their deep red is my favorite red stationary-perfect for Christmas) and made all of them, including envelope liners, wrote on, and addressed them in less than 3 hours. Again, simple and easy.

The mess.

she minibook.

My latest crafty obsession has been minibooks. I have made some in the past, like forever ago in high school when making cute flash cards was my thing, but then college came along and didn’t allow me any time to do them. With all the free time I have now, I am on a roll. I regularly read Elise Blaha’s blog, and she is a pro at these things. I borrowed the idea for a “She” book from her, in fact. Here is a peek at her’s.

I used wallpaper samples from an interior design class I once took, random pictures of myself and stuff I love that have just been lying in crate on my bookshelf. I put it together pretty quickly. I learned that quicker is better because too much thinking makes the mini look just how I don’t like….too planned out. I like the messiness. These aren’t all of the pages, but here’s a peek. I really need to find a good place to take photos of them. The sun glares definitely mess up the color. Live and learn.

Studying hard or hardly studying.

As I am taking a break from reading the most boring shit in history about history, I’ll give this a quick update.

I haven’t had much to write about lately.  Well, actually, that’s a lie.  I have things to spew about, but I don’t have the time or the energy to sit here and type them out.  I spent much of the weekend out with friends, and needless to say, it wiped me out.  Papers, essays, and finals are upon me, and they have been occupying much of my mind.  In a way, I can’t complain.  It keeps me busy, and busy is good.  But busy also takes away precious time that I could be spending with my people.  I sit here studying and sometimes wonder where the time is going.  I mean, it’s nearly 11 p.m., and just 10 minutes ago it seems, I was sitting here watching Jason Castro completely murder a perfectly good Bob Dylan song.  That was almost 4 hours ago!

I can’t wait until next week, when finally I’ll have a chance to breathe.
